Rick Mein
Hometown: Walnut, Kansas

Gun: Krieghoff K-80

A successful competitor across many shotgun disciplines, Rick has won numerous national and international awards.  He is known for his consistency and positive attitude.  Rick has two sons: Derrick, who also shoots, and Trenton, an avid golfer.

Bio: My name is Rick Mein and I am from a little town in southeast Kansas called Walnut. I grew up on a farm and still farm for a living. As a kid growing up on a farm I had plenty of chances to fine tune my shooting skills. First with a BB gun then a pellet gun , then a 22, then a shotgun. It wasn't until I was 40 years old that I started shooting competitively. I first shot sporting clays, a few trap shoots, a flyer shoot or two, and then I found ZZs. They are the most difficult of all the shotgun sports. That is what makes  them  so interesting to me. If you beat a ZZ, then you know you have done something!

I have had great success shooting ZZ's. I am a 3 time and current National Champion. I placed 4th in the world championships this year in Argentina and won a bronze medal in Gedhi, Italy in 2004. I have been fortunate to have been on the US Helice Team 4 times. My team members and I won 3 silvers and one gold medal in those years.

My gun of choice is a Krieghoff K-80 which I am very proud of. I have a custom stock on it made by Wenig Gunstocks of Lincoln, Missouri. It is made out of Birdseye Maple and I get a lot of comments on it. I shot Bornaghi shells for quite some time, but they aren't available any more so I a will probably be shooting Federals now.

If anyone hasn't tried ZZ's by now, I encourage you to do so. They are very challenging, but OHHHH the satisfaction of smashing one to smithereens!

Jennifer Paul
Hometown: Stockton, CA

Number of Years on Team: 2
Gun: Perazzi MX 2000
Preferred Shells: Bornaghi (3 and 3 1/4 dram)

Bio: I started out shooting skeet with my mom and dad, then my dad built a ZZ ring in Stockton and I started shooting that. When I am not shooting, I am singing in the Chamber Choir at St. Mary's High School, or helping my dad and brother at the go kart track. The farthest I have traveled is Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Bologna, Italy. My favorite place to shoot would have to be the Ring at Stockton at the Waterloo Gun and Bocci Club.

My accomplishments: US team two years, All State Honor choir and Regional Honor Choir, as well as the San Joaquin County Honor choir for three consecutive years (hoping for a fourth year, to get the four year award.)

Jane Vujovich
Hometown: Oxnard, California

Gun: Perazzi

Notables: World Champion (Portugal)

An avid outdoorswoman, Jane has been a force to be reckoned with in many competitive shotgun disciplines.  Jane is one of the few helice shooters in the U.S. who shoots using a low-gun approach.  It’s obviously effective, as she is a helice World Champion.

Mike Bogetti
Hometown: Vernalis, California

Gun: Krieghoff

Shooting is a family affair for the Bogetti’s, as Mike, his brother, and father are all competitive shooters.  Mike is a huge promoter of the sport of helice and is the FITASC representative for the United States.  He has been a member of the U.S. Helice Team on numerous occasions.

Weldon Nichols
Hometown: Big Spring, Texas

Gun: Kemen

Notables: U.S. National Champion

Weldon’s outstanding hand-eye coordination makes him successful in almost every sport he attempts, and shooting is no exception.  But, if you’re going to watch, you better pay close attention—he’s also one of the fastest helice shooters in the U.S.

Mimi Wilfong
Hometown: Malakoff, Texas

Gun: Perazzi MX8 (special duct tape stock edition)

Preferred Shells:  B&P

Bio:  I started shooting trap and skeet with my brother and his friends in 4-H when I was 12 years old.  I began shooting Olympic trap when I was in high school and tried helice soon thereafter. I was fortunate to be able to shoot while I was in college at Texas A&M (Class of ’08—WHOOP!).   I’ve been able to travel all over the world thanks to shooting (and experienced some success: have won a few national championships, made world championship teams with other excellent shooters, and even beat some of the guys a few times….ha!), met tons of great people, and had great opportunities become available.   I’m constantly learning new things!!

If you’ve never tried helice, I encourage you to….NOW!  It’s a great sport, very challenging, and I guarantee you will meet some great people and have a lot of fun.
